About Alex McQuade B.A. Hons. Textile Design (Mixed Media)

Alex graduated in 2006 from De Montfort University, Leicester with first class honours in Textile Design. With previous experience working in the Textile Industry and for the Laura Ashley Design Service, Alex is now following her dream. By collating her experiences and love of beautiful new and vintage fabrics, embellishment and decoration, she has created her own textile collection.

Inspiration for the collection comes from nature, the outdoors and the quirkiness of everyday life, walks in the British countryside, tea at the farm shop and visits to steam fairs have all influenced the current range.

Important to Alex is the use of quality products from handmade felts; hand dyed antique lace, beautiful linens and cottons. She also embraces the idea of recycling and never throws anything away, deconstructing old items giving new life to buttons, lace, ribbons and old vintage fabrics is a real joy in the Alex McQuade studio.

There is no end to her talents. Alex is also an artist using a unique technique involving layering paint, ink, and pastel, then adding texture with textile mediums, fabrics and embroidery. The finished result is an intriguing, highly original style of work combined with a fresh, light colour palette.

Alex became a selected member of the Leicester Society of Artists in 2007 and exhibits with them twice a year at New Walk Museum.

Alex is available for commissions and can even be found on cake decorating courses in her spare time !
